Yat Li received his B.Sc. (1999) and Ph.D. (2002) in Chemistry from The University of Hong Kong, where he studied the coordination chemistry of metal clusters and their catalytic applications under the supervision of Prof. Wing Tak Wong. In 2003, he was awarded a Croucher Foundation postdoctoral fellowship to work with Prof. Charles Lieber at Harvard University, focusing on the optical and electronic properties of III-nitrides nanowire and nanowire heterostructures. In 2007, Yat Li joined the University of California, Santa Cruz as an assistant professor. He was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2013 and to full professor in 2018. His research centers on the rational design, fabrication, and assembly of functional materials, with an emphasis on understanding their chemical and physical properties and exploring their applications in catalysis, energy conversion, and energy storage. Yat Li has published over 160 papers in leading scientific journals, which have been cited more than 40,000 times, resulting in an H-index of 94. He has been recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics (Web of Science) annually since 2017. His numerous awards and honors include being named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, receiving the CAPA Distinguished Faculty Award, the Kavli Fellow, the NSF Career Award, the Croucher Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship, the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowship, and the Li Po Chun Postgraduate Scholarship. Yat Li currently serves as an associate editor for Battery Energy and sits on the editorial boards of several scientific journals, including Nano Letters, Journal of Physical Chemistry A/B/C, Nano-Micro Letters, Science China Chemistry, Frontiers of Optoelectronics, ChemPhysMater, Catalysts.
